As we enter into Fall and the holidays approach, many of us are planning holiday trips and fun family outings.  There isn’t anything that can kill the holiday mood faster than a bed bug infestation.  The professionals at ProChem ProActive are experienced in bed bug heat treatments and could solve your bed bug problem in as little as 24 hours.  What’s better than a superfast, affordable bed bug treatment…..well not having a bed bug problem would be better.  That’s why ProChem ProActive has compiled a list of 5 things you can do to prevent bed bugs from coming home with you.

  1.  Know where bed bugs are

The firstbed bug prevention tip is to be aware of where bed bugs are most likely picked up and know the signs of bed bugs.  Bed Bugs are most likely picked up in busy, high traffic locations, like hotels and motels, airports and airplanes, busses and transportation stations, and any other place where people come with their belongings and sit for a while.  This could even include movie theaters, restaurants, and libraries.
Before you site down anywhere take a quick look around the area.  If you see any tiny dark spots (like lots of ink spots all in one area) or if you see cast skins from dead bugs, it’s probably not a good idea to put your belongings down.  Other signs are blood smears and, obviously, live bugs.  Bed Bugs like to hide in the seams of upholstery, so a small flashlight can help to quickly see into these smaller areas.

  1.  Get hard case luggage

If you’re planning and traveling this year, it might be a good idea to invest in some hard shell luggage.  The hard, slippery surface will make it harder for bed bugs to latch onto your belongings and could save you from bringing home hitchhikers.

  1.  Do your research

This might seem obvious, but you should know what a bed bug looks like.  Check out these blogs on our bedsite for pictures and more info about what bed bugs look like at their various life cycle stages.

  1.  Never sit your luggage on the bed
many people do this then they first get into a hotel room.  The bed seems like a perfect place to lay your heavy suitcase after a long day of traveling; however if there are bed bugs present in your room, they are probably on the bed.  By placing your open bag on the bed you might as well have sent the bed bugs an invitation to come aboard.  Instead, use the luggage rack for your suitcase, OR put your suitcase in the bathtub until you’ve done a complete inspection of the room.
  1. Clean uyour space
Contrary to some circulating wives tales, bed bugs aren’t exclusively for those that keep an untidy living area.  Bed bugs can live anywhere, even in the cleanest environments, although clutter makes it easier for them to find hiding places.  Keeping your home neat and tidy won’t guarantee that you won’t get bed bugs, but it will make it harder for them to go undetected and doesn’t give them time to mate, lay eggs and allow the infestation to grow.

We hope that you are bedbugfree this year, but if bed bug does find their way home with you, have no fears.  ProChem Proactive is standing by with the best treatment options available to kill bed bugs fast!  Don’t let bed bugs ruin your holidays, call ProChem Proactive and ask about a bed bug heat treatment, k-9 inspection, and residual chemical treatments if necessary.  You can reach us at (866) 674-7779 or by email at
